General Roofing Questions
How can I tell if my roof needs repairs or a full replacement?
Signs like missing shingles, granule loss, visible damage, sagging, or general wear often indicate a problem. A professional inspection is the best way to determine whether a targeted repair or a full replacement is right for your roof.
How long does a typical roof last?
It depends on the material. Asphalt shingle roofs generally last 20–30 years, while metal and tile roofs can last considerably longer with proper installation and maintenance.
What are the most common signs of roof damage?
Watch for missing or damaged shingles, water stains on ceilings, leaks, discoloration in drywall, and visible wear. Addressing these early helps prevent more extensive and costly repairs.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most residential roof replacements take one to five days depending on the size of the roof, the materials, weather conditions, and the overall scope of work.
Do I need to be home during the installation?
No. We simply need access to the property, driveway, water, and electricity. We typically do not need to enter the interior of your home.
Roofing Costs & Estimates
Are your estimates really free?
Yes. Every estimate is free and comes with honest recommendations and no obligation. We visit your property, assess the roof, and give you a clear breakdown of the work and cost before anything begins.
What factors affect the cost of a new roof?
Roof size, pitch, accessibility, the materials you choose, existing damage, and overall project complexity all influence the final price. That's why an on-site estimate is the most accurate way to know your cost.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace my roof?
In most cases a repair costs less than a full replacement. However, if the roof has widespread damage or is near the end of its lifespan, a replacement is often more cost-effective in the long run.
Why do roofing quotes vary so much?
Quotes reflect the quality and detail of the work - proper flashing replacement, correct installation practices, permits, licensing, insurance, and warranties. A lower quote may not include the same materials, coverage, or workmanship.
Insurance & Storm Damage
Does homeowners insurance cover roof replacement?
It may, if the damage is caused by a covered event such as a storm. Coverage depends on your specific policy, so we recommend reviewing your plan or speaking with your provider.
Should I call a roofer or my insurance company first?
It often helps to start with a roofing professional. We can assess the damage, help determine whether it's storm-related, and provide documentation and photos to support your insurance claim.
What does hail and wind damage look like?
Hail can leave dents, bruising, and granule loss on shingles, while wind damage usually appears as lifted, torn, or missing shingles - sometimes with pieces scattered around your property.
Can you help with the insurance claim process?
Yes. We inspect the damage, document it thoroughly with photos and a professional assessment, and help you communicate clearly with your insurer to make the process as smooth as possible.
Emergency Roofing
Do you offer emergency roof repair?
Yes. We offer emergency roof repair to address urgent issues quickly and help prevent further damage to your home.
What should I do if my roof is leaking during a storm?
First, contain the water with buckets or containers to limit interior damage. If it's safe, check the attic to identify where water is entering, then call us as soon as possible so we can respond.
Can you tarp a roof temporarily?
Yes. In most cases we can temporarily tarp a roof to protect it from further water intrusion until permanent repairs can be made.
Roof Replacement & Materials
What roofing materials do you offer?
We install a range of materials including asphalt (composition) shingles, metal roofing, tile, and single-ply and built-up systems for flat roofs. The best option depends on your roof's slope, your budget, and the look you want.
What's the difference between asphalt shingles and metal roofing?
Asphalt shingles are affordable, versatile, and widely used. Metal roofing costs more up front but is extremely durable and can last 50 years or more, making it a strong long-term investment.
Can I install a new roof over my existing one?
Some codes allow it, but we generally don't recommend it. Installing over an old roof can hide underlying issues and reduce the performance and lifespan of the new system.
Does a new roof increase home value?
Yes. A new roof improves curb appeal, boosts buyer confidence, and reduces concerns about future repairs - making your home more attractive to potential buyers.
Inspections & Maintenance
How often should my roof be inspected?
We recommend a professional look every few years, and after any major storm. Regular inspections catch small issues early, extend your roof's life, and help prevent costly repairs.
Can clogged gutters damage my roof?
Yes. When gutters are blocked, water can back up under the roofline or overflow, leading to leaks, wood rot, and other moisture-related damage over time.
What does preventative roof maintenance involve?
It includes regularly clearing debris from the roof and gutters and checking for visible wear or damage. Consistent upkeep helps prevent leaks and significantly extends the life of your roof.
